American Cancer Society Gets an Early Christmas Gift from Citizens National Bank
Citizens National Bank presented a check for $1,500.00 to the American Cancer Society in a ceremony at the Bank’s Downtown Banking Centre today.
During the month of October, Citizens National Bank offered a Think Pink Checking account in all 26 of their bank locations across Mississippi. Through this promotion, the bank allowed customers to make a donation to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fund in lieu of the normal minimum opening deposit amount that is typically required to open a checking account, In addition, the Bank waived the first three months of service charge for anyone who came in to open a Think Pink checking account.
Bank employees also showed their support for the fundraising efforts by donating $5 every Friday during the month of October for the opportunity to wear jeans to work. In addition, the Bank was recognized as a Platinum sponsor at this year's Queen City Race for Life event in recognition of the Bank’s support of breast cancer awareness.
Neil Henry, President of Citizens National Bank's Meridian Region said: "So many of our customers tell us that they appreciate this fundraising campaign that we promote each year because we all seem to know someone who has been touched by this disease and courageously fought a battle to overcome it.” As of 2016, the Bank has donated over $20,000 to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Fund through this campaign.
Channing Peebles, Community Manager for Relay for Life in Lauderdale, Clarke, and Newton Counties, was on hand to accept the donation on behalf of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Fund as well as Christin Waters, who is a Senior Manager for Relay for Life.
According to the American Cancer Society, over 40,000 women die from breast cancer in the United States each year, so the ACS recommends that women over 40 get a mammogram annually and also perform regular self-exams so that any signs of breast cancer can be detected early.
