Groundbreaking Event

Great things are happening in our community!  A groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 15 for the future Citizens National Bank Sports Complex. The state-of-the-art facility, located at 820 51st Avenue, will house the Tommy McDonald Softball Field and the Wanda McPhail tennis courts. The Sports Complex is being built on College owned property, where Matty Hersee Hospital was previously located.

MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner said the new complex is a welcomed addition. “We are truly excited about the value this project will bring to our campus and our community. Not only will we be able to provide state-of-the-art facilities for our student athletes, but I'm already excited about seeing how that corner of town will come to life as students, faculty, staff, family, and fans converge to watch games and matches and support friends and loved ones in a competitive environment,” he said.

Archie McDonnell, CEO of Citizens National Bank, also shared his excitement for the upcoming project. “Meridian Community College and Citizens National Bank are two of the oldest and most respected institutions in Meridian,” he said. I can’t think of two organizations who have invested more in people, physical assets and community assets than these two organizations. Winners want to be associated with winners! The opportunity to participate with Meridian Community College on this project was a natural fit. I can’t wait to see young people competing at the Citizens National Bank Sports Complex, and we’re so thankful that Dr. Huebner and MCC gave us this opportunity.”

Dr. Huebner added, “Citizens National Bank is making an investment in a facility, of course, but more importantly, they are endorsing opportunities for students to learn about hard work and strong effort and are showing all of us they believe Meridian Community College is important to this community. We are so grateful for their support and can't wait for this vision to be complete."
